I CAN NEVER GET SWINE FLU…

Why, you might ask ? Because I went and got that vaccine. Not that I ever had Swine Flu, or that I was super scared of getting it, I had to play it safe. Even with a strong immune system, I still have asthma and that’s where the “Swine” doesn’t play. I’m around all sorts of people, all day every day, and frequent a lot of places. I shake a lot of hands, I’m around kids, give a lot of people hugs, hit up parties/clubs, etc and the risk of catching it is real. From having my asthma/allergy doctor tell me if I got the Swine Flu and had an asthma attack, we could be talking about life and death. Having trouble breathing and completely NOT breathing, is no joke.

Which brings me to a story I wanted to tell about going to get the vaccine. I had the option to go to Compton College, Pomona College, and a few other places to go and get the vaccine but those were hella far. So when I heard Santa Monica College was going to have it, my best friend (who also has asthma) and I said it’s game-time. Gotta go !!! When I say you’ve never seen a gathering of people to wait in a line like this ever, I truly mean it. Imagine a 10-hour Magic Mountain line, but waaay worse. Imagine people camping out, since 5:30am to get in this line, with sleeping bags and chairs. Imagine the vaccine only being in one building, but there’s “SIX” 5-hour lines just to get into the building. Imagine atleast 2000+ people waiting altogether. Imagine the lines being unorganized, or the whole process being unorganized.

Complete mayhem. Seriously. It was almost like being in one of those end of the world movies. Let’s say Armageddon, or War of the Worlds, or even better…”I Am Legend.” Remember the panic and frenzy of all those people trying to get off of Manhattan ?! Yeah…it was like that. Pain, agony, tears, joy, sorrow, disbelief…all things I witnessed trying to get this vaccine. Mothers, fathers, daughters and sons…whole families, trying to get right. Some were told to “turn around, leave, you don’t qualify, you’re too young, you’re not getting it, you don’t have asthma, you’re too old, we only have 50 vaccines for children under the age of 3”. Woah. That’s a problem.

Fighting, arguing, pushing, police, security, disclaimers and waivers…complete mayhem. You have no idea. I’ll post some pictures later on to “KIND OF” let you get a feel for how it was but they don’t do it justice by any means. Before I go, I just want to say that, we didn’t wait in a 5-hour line and we didn’t get there at 5:30. From my facial expression to my body language, not one person was going to say “hey, no cuts.” I wasn’t playing around.

When shit hits the fan in this country, are you going to be ready for it ? And at what cost are you going to do what you have to do, to ensure that you’ll survive. I tested my limits, did what I had to do when I felt my back was against the wall and got the result I needed. Survival of the Fittest is dead real.
