State of the West:
I gotta say, Tiron & Ayomari’s “Hello Money” has me excited about music right now for this coast of ours. Crazy thing is, they’re not even from here. Residing here, for some time…kinda fooled me but…the South and the Midwest run thru their veins. They get a west coast pass tho. *Refreshing would be a good description for that song. Heard 3 LAUSD produced tracks ( Diz Gibran, Tiron, Dom Kennedy) in the studio that had me amped as well. All of those were solid. BANG. “Choose Up” by Dom got a video shot for itself today as a matter of fact. Dom stays working, and I be hard on him too because, he thinks he runs Leimert but my great great great Uncle was part Indian and he helped build that statue in Leimert Park. That’s my hood. Not really, he can have it. Even though it was a rough version, there’s a song with Dom & Skeme ft. Anwar that’s real solid. I fuck with it. Ran into K-Dot (Kendrick Lamar) the other day, he said he got some shit comin’…and me personally, I think he’s one of the best out here. Period. Him and BadLucc. I’d put my money on either. If you don’t feel that way, just speak up and I’ll email you enough proof. *Just my opinion- with more than enough proof. lol.
Who else ? Diz…he stays working. Moving in silence, he always has sumthin up his sleeve. Wait til’ “Dark End of The Street” really drops again. Been meaning to catch up with Mibbs & Like, who vacated the Pac Div mansion for the holidays but…invited me to put my ear on what they got cooking. They’re pretty much on track anyway, I guess they value my opinion which is cool, b’cuz I value theirs. And I think El Prez is dropping a project soon, “Animal Style”…has to have bangers on it, he’s been cooking for a minute. I guess I could ask em but, I wonder what U.N.I. is rockin’ up. ?! Regardless if you fuck with em or not, you can’t mention the west coast movement without mentioning them. I guess when artists get on MTV they’ll think about saying sumthin to them. Until then, shhhhh. *By the way, I saw a fake Y.O. the other day. I had to bring that up again. Shoulda took a picture. I mean, it was the mohawk, the snap-back hat, a denim coat, everything…straight bit. Terrible. Anyway…
Who’d I forget ?! H.O.P.E ?! Julien Edwards ( his manager ?!) stays trying to convince the world Hope is dope but I’m not convinced yet. Maybe I need to listen again, or listen to the right songs. Speaking of Convinced, where you at ?! Chris Focus, where you at ?! All them Floss Angeles dudes, where ya’ll at ?! Stevie Crooks is a rookie on the rise. Not too many people know about him but, from the music I’ve heard, he might be ready. When’s that Nipsey album droppin ?! Murs. Forgot about Murs. Crooked I ? Mykestro ? Where the vets at ?! Dre ? Quik ?! Let’s go !!!
All in all, the West is workin’- nobody is fully ON yet but, the city and coast is working. Which is important. It’s a little crowded but, somebody will eventually drop a hit, or a classic…and separate from the bunch. Atleast that should be a goal for some. Can’t forget my ninjas up North: the Jacka, Messy Marv, Lil’ B, J. Stalin, and Quinn…always working and MOVING UNITS. Actually making money off of selling units. Independently. Another goal. Can’t wait to see how it all pans out. I’m just a fan, on the outside looking in.
