I first became a fan of @CHIP216 on February 16th, 2008…atleast that’s what my itunes says. That was the day I purchased a track off of Hi-Tek’s “Hi-Teknology 3” album called “Ohio All Stars”. The first three verses of the song were cool, but it was the fourth and final verse from Chip Tha Ripper that made me a fan. After that, I decided to do my research…who was this dude ?! DJ-EV dropped his “Money Mixtape” and I was sold. “I’m Fitted” is the standout track on there if you ask me and from that point, I was in Chip’s corner. Here’s where the problem occurs tho; his latest mixtape The Cleveland Show was a fumble. First of all, who the hell puts 25+ songs on a mixtape ?! Nobody has time for that…*nobody. And whatever happened to the mantra of “less is more” ?! Anyway, there’s 25 songs on his latest mixtape and I might FULLY fuck with like 7 or 8 of them. MAYBE. That’s less than half of the total project, leaving a percentage rate of dope songs at under 50% and that’s a fumble. Some of the production was lazy, some of the bars and verses were lackluster, and there was no clear and concise vision or “sound”. Remember when albums had a “consistent” sound ?!
Not gonna let all that bother me tho, I still fuck with Chip, still a fan, looking forward to hearing and seeing what else he has in store next year. *check it…
